In COLOR THEORY I, artists will work sequentially through a series of exercises that demonstrate the behavior of color in certain conditions. In addition to the in-class lessons, assignments issued each week will be completed at home. Attention is paid to identifying what in seen in terms of color, interpreting information and translating observation into a mix, learning color interaction, and handling paint.
What is started in Color Theory I continues and expands in COLOR THEORY II. Artists study color structure (harmonic relationships), composition, and application of paint, expanding the palette, finding color balance within the work, and analyzing a work as it develops. In addition, the mechanics and methodology of the painting process - different types of brushes, preparing a substrate, making paint, using extenders, adjusting for canvas size, how to put the paint onto canvas selectively and deliberately are addressed.
