The purposes of the North Haven Historical Society as stated in the bylaws are:
 - To bring together people interested in history, particularly the history of the town of North Haven, Maine;
 - To discover, collect, preserve, and make available to the public any material that pertains to the history of North Haven and the surrounding area;
 - To perpetuate the memory of those who helped to make the history of the area;
 - To disseminate historical information and strive to arouse interest in local history; and
 - To cooperate with other historical societies.
