The Caldbeck Gallery has been in the business of handling fine art since 1982. It is known and respected in the Maine and the New York art worlds for its exhibitions of paintings, sculpture, and photography. Wife and husband team Cynthia Hyde and James Kinnealey continue to carefully build their contemporary art business at 12 Elm Street in Rockland, Maine. Their gallery consistently provides an atmosphere of respect for its artists and their work, and for those who come to see it and make it part of their lives.
The Caldbeck opened its doors in June of 1982 with an exhibit of painting and sculpture by Jim Kinnealey, Cynthia Hyde, Lise Becu, Nancy Glassman, Ron Cross, and Andrew Heineman. Established NYC artists, who since the 1950's had been coming to Maine each summer, were among the wonderful friends and supporters who encouraged Jim and Cynthia to continue with their exhibits, all the while helping them by bringing attention to the gallery and by attending every exhibit throughout the summer. 26 years later, with exhibits year-round , the Caldbeck continues its focus on solo shows of known and lesser-known Maine artists, presenting a wide range of working styles in contemporary Maine art.
Cyndi Prince, the Director of Operations at the Caldbeck, began working at the gallery in 2005. She came to Maine in 2004 to study fine art photography at The Maine Photographic Workshops/Rockport College and has since settled in Camden.
